Here at the Ocho, you will hear us talk about "overall fitness" and "fitness for life ahead." But what does that really mean??

CrossFit has identified ten recognized general physical skills:

1. cardiovascular/respiratory endurance

2. stamina

3. strength

4. flexibility

5. power

6. speed

7. coordination

8. agility

9. balance

10. accuracy

You are as fit as you are competent in each of these ten skills. A regimen develops fitness to the extent that it improves each of these ten skills. A weakness in one area is a weakness in overall fitness.

Importantly, improvements in endurance, stamina, strength, and flexibility come about through training. Training refers to activity that improves performance through a measurable organic change in the body.

By contrast improvements in coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy come about through practice. Practice refers to activity that improves performance through changes in the nervous system.

Power and speed are adaptations of both training and practice.

Here at The Ocho, we are always working on all 10 physical skills. We work on them in our warm ups, our stretching, our games, and our workouts. The best thing about the whole process is that all you need to do is show up and give it your best.
